Dedication
Mat’s life is totally focused on becoming a success behind the wheel. At the age of 23, he spends every day working on one of the cars, traveling to the next race, or competing on the track. Mat takes his commitment seriously, as he and his employees maintain a shop that houses 3 USAC Sprint cars, a WoO Wing car, and a USAC Midget. Mat raced in 13 sates in 2006 as he chased feature wins and national titles. Mat lives by the motto "It can be done".
Personal
Born Mathew Craig Neely in 1983 in Illinois, Mat graduated Robinson High School ½ year early in 2002. Mat spent his high school years working as an oil rough neck in his father's oil business, "Maverick Energy", while trying to get his racing career off the ground. Mat has also found time to obtain his Associate in Science Degree from Lincoln Trail College. Mat has an older brother named Jason who plays an active role in the team by being Mat’s race day spotter. Mat’s greatest influence in life is his father Larry, because of his work ethic and determination. Mat’s racing heroes include Jeff Gordon and J.J. Yeley, who has given Mat advice on setups, driving tips, and in the technical aspects of the sport. During the off season (i.e. winter) Mat likes to spend time with his long time girl friend Lacey and his pet dog Carl.
