C.J. Humphreys has been active in motorsports competition for the last 27 years. He has successfully competed in motorcycles, street stocks, and sprint cars throughout the western United States and Canada, winning at all levels of these sports.
In seventeen seasons of competition in dirt sprint cars, C.J. has a strong list of accomplishments. Included in these are: 21 feature wins, 8 trophy dash wins, 32 fast qualifying times, and 24 B Main event wins. He captured the points championship in the 1991 Pacific Coast Civil War sprint car challenge series. In weekly competition at California's Placerville Speedway, he has finished in the top ten in points 15 out of the last 18 years.
In 2003 he joined with Hamilton Motorsports to venture into another racing division. With the help of Oval Chassis Research and others he was encouraged to try it and as we all knew he was a natural. Proving us right he went out on his first night with no practice laps taken due to fuel, power steering and motor problems. In taking his first lap on qualifying he turned a 18.038 which was 3rd quickest for that night. Starting on the poll of his heat and the main. He gained the respect of drivers and fans alike with finishing 5th.
Since that night he raced 4 more times, finishing in the top five 3 times in the
remaining season.
C.J. is a capable sprint car driver. In an annual survey conducted by west coast
racing publication ranking the top 360 sprint car drivers on the west coast, C.J. has
made the top ten list for three out of the last four years, (1993 quote) and has
continued to finish in the top five consistently.
C.J. Humphreys projects a marketable image. As a father and a husband, he is aware of
the importance of being a good role model. CJ’s enthusiasm for the sport
combined with his success in racing provide excellent exposure for the race team and
its sponsors. C.J. goes out of his way to make sure that he is not only visible, but
also easily accessible by both fans and sponsors. With the additional reputation of
lending a helping hand to his fellow drivers when they are in a crunch CJ is often
spotted wrenching on cars and or lending parts. "I believe that it is all about
the driving, if all the drivers out here had the exact same cars you could see better
racing by the use of skills rather than who has the best equipment."
C.J. contributes to any event that has to do with children: 1997 through 1999 he
participated in the "Day with the Racers", a foundation that sponsors
children with cancer and other life threatening illnesses to spend a day with USAC and
local race car drivers. Unfortunately this organization has discontinued its efforts,
however we support the family of Brian Chadaris who continues to struggle with his
disease every day.
Aluminum Bodies Fabrication (April 18, 2003 )
OCR (Oval Chassis Research) proudly announces the privilege of being the exclusive distributor for CJ’s custom Aluminum Sprint Car Bodies. These beautiful bodies are available as on option for all new cars or retrofits. In our early days, before the invention of fiberglass, sheet metal bodies were the norm. Those masters have long since passed and we are so excited to see the promise of CJ’s talent! Just maybe that long ago art is not lost and once again Sprint Cars will sport all aluminum bodies! Ok, maybe just those beautiful Pavement Cars, rock dings were always a problem at those darn ole dirt tracks! OCR is very excited to have the talents of Placerville Speedway star driver CJ Humphreys. CJ is lending his tremendous sheet metal talent in exchange for his first pavement experience in an OCR resurrected BEAST. The new OCR Sprintcar bodies are just beautiful and CJ is looking forward to his new career on the pavement. (Taken from: www.ocr71.com )
